Marianne Crebassa

The mezzo-soprano Marianne Crebassa studied singing and the piano at the Montpellier Conservatoire, while also attending a course in musicology at the city’s University. She was twenty-one when in 2008 she made her professional stage debut at the Montpellier Opera in Schumann’s Manfred under Hervé Niquet. Since then she has appeared frequently at the Montpellier Opera and the Festival de Radio France et Montpellier in a repertory that has included Pizzetti’s Fedra, Debussy’s Le Martyre de Saint-Sébastien, Bellini’s Zaira, Verdi’s La traviata (Flora) and Lehár’s Friederike. Among the conductors with whom she has worked on these performances have been Enrique Mazzola, Alain Altinoglu and Lawrence Foster.
Following her success as Isabella Linton in Bernard Herrmann’s opera Wuthering Heights at the 2010 Festival de Radio France she joined the Atelier Lyrique at the Paris Opéra, where she remained for two seasons. In addition to appearances on the main stage in Lulu and Rigoletto, she also made her role debuts as Gluck’s Orphée and Mozart’s Ramiro (La finta giardiniera) in Atelier Lyrique productions. In July 2011 she sang the title role in Halévy’s La Magicienne at the Festival de Radio France under Lawrence Foster.
Marianne Crebassa made her Salzburg Festival debut in 2012 as Irene in concert performances of Handel’s Tamerlano under Marc Minkowski, under whom she also sang Cecilio in Lucio Silla at the 2013 Mozart Week Festival. Future engagements include Dorabella (Così fan tutte) in Montpellier and Siébel (Faust) in Amsterdam.
Marianne Crebassa has already built up a substantial repertory of French mélodies and German lieder. She performed a French programme with the pianist Georges Pludermacher. In the concert hall she has taken part in performances of Le Martyre de Saint-Sébastien in the Vienna Musikverein and Berlioz’s Roméo et Juliette at the Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon.
