Sofia Sá da Bandeira

Sofia Sá da Bandeira was born in Lisbon. She studied Philosophy at the Portuguese Catholic University and graduated in Theatre Studies from the Academy of Theatre and Cinema of the Portuguese National Conservatory.

As an actress, she as taken part in various projects for the theatre, cinema, and television, such as Joana D’Arc, Lendas de Portugal,  Verão quente, A grande aposta, Filhos do vento, Claxon, A árvore, As dioptrias de Elisa, Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest, O Processo dos Távoras, Alves dos Reis, Roseira brava, Desencontros, Almeida Garrett, O crime, Vila faia, Liberdade 21, Voo directo, Laços de sangue, Dancing days, Nossos dias, or, more recently, A Noite by José Saramago.

She has also taken part in international productions such as Crimes en série, Feu Adrien Muset, Une Famille formidable, Le voyage étranger, Les fleurs du Mal, La Leyenda de Balthasar el Castrado, among others.

Also for television, she hosted children programmes such as Vitaminas, Projectos Sírios, Ruas Vivas, and Ecoman. She has dubbed animation films for Disney and narrated poetry for various audiobooks, including a recording of Portuguese traditional stories for the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP). She was also a jury for the Tróia Cinema Festival, CinEco, Famafest, and the International Film Festival of Cape Verde.

Sofia Sá da Bandeira is presently filming Mar Salgado for the television channel SIC and preparing a new season of Une Famille Formidable in France.

For many years, she was a regular collaborator of weekly newspaper Expresso and she has published two books: the collection of short stories titled Stories of a Married Woman and the novel Quase Nós, both for Dom Quixote editions.

Recently, she was the narrator in a performance of Benjamin Britten’s The young person’s guide to the orchestra with the Portuguese Symphony Orchestra conducted by Pedro Neves at the São Carlos National Theatre.
