Lorenzo Viotti

Stephan Doleschal

The young Swiss conductor came to international attention as winner of the Nestlé and Salzburg Festival Young Conductors Awards 2015 at the age of 25 years, the Cadaqués International Conducting Competition, and the MDR Conducting Competition in 2013.

Major international orchestras which Lorenzo Viotti has conducted so far include the Orchesta Sinfónica de Tenerife, BBC Philharmonic in Manchester, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic and the Orchestre National de Lille, Tokyo and Osaka Symphony Orchestras, Osaka Philharmonic, Orchestre National de France in Paris, Bamberger Symphoniker, Bremer Philharmoniker, Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, Münchner Rundfunkorchester, Tonkünstler-Orchester Niederösterreich, Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne, Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, Göteborgs Symfoniker, the Danish National Radio Symphony Orchestra, and others.

Three highly successful last minute engagements in 2016 marked also his debut with distinguished orchestras: at the end of January Lorenzo Viotti conducted three concerts with the Amsterdam Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in the place of Franz Welser-Möst, at the end of May he stepped in for Myung-Whun Chung conducting two concerts with the Wiener Symphoniker in Vienna. In July he replaced Marc Minkowski conducting the Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra at the Verbier Festival.

The artist celebrated a further highly acclaimed debut at the Salzburg Festival with the Radio-Symphonieorchester Wien in August 2016.

His widely praised performance in La belle Hélène at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris in May 2015 was followed by Rossini’s La cambiale di matrimonio at the Teatro La Fenice in Venice, Carmen in Klagenfurt and Rigoletto at the Stuttgart Opera. More opera productions will follow.

Future engagements include, among others, projects with the Staatskapelle Dresden, Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester, Münchner Philharmoniker and numerous productions at the opera houses of Klagenfurt, Stuttgart, Frankfurt, Dresden, Zurich, Lyon, Paris, and Tokyo.

Since 2016/17, Lorenzo Viotti is Assistant Conductor of the GUSTAV MAHLER JUGENDORCHESTERS. He will make his debut with the GMJO in March 2017 with two concerts in Lisbon.
