Bruno Delepelaire

Bruno

Receiving the Echo Klassik "Young Talent of the Year" in 2023 for his recording of the Abel cello concertos, Bruno Delepelaire is a versatile musician. Appointed first principal cello of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra in 2013, he is also a member of the 12 cellists of the Berlin Philharmonic, an avid chamber musician and a regular soloist. He has performed with some of the greatest orchestras and conductors, and has worked together with renowned composers. In 2022 he played the world premiere of the cello concerto by Donghoon Shin, "Nachtergebung", conducted by Kirill Petrenko, and in 2018 he performed the european premiere of "Un Despertar", the 2nd cello concerto written by Matthias Pintscher. Bruno Delepelaire owes the fact that he became a cellist to his grandmother, an enthusiastic amateur cellist. As a five-year-old, he also wanted to learn the instrument. The cello lessons with his first cello teacher Erwan Fauré were formative experiences for him. Bruno Delepelaire later studied at the Paris Conservatoire under Philippe Muller, and he became a member of the GUSTAV MAHLER JUGENDORCHESTER. In 2012 he went to Berlin to continue his training under Jens Peter Maintz at the University of the Arts and under Ludwig Quandt at the Karajan Akademie. Interested in understanding further the music he plays, he also studied harmony and keyboard harmonization at the Paris Conservatoire, and likes to compose in his free time. As a soloist, he has performed with the Berliner Philharmoniker, the Bielefelder Philharmoniker, the Saarbrücken Rundfunkorchester, the Bayerische Kammerphilharmonie, the Berliner Barocksolisten, the Kammerakademie Postdam, the Württembergische Philharmonie Reutlingen, the Münchner Rundfunkorchester, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestre de l'Opéra de Nice, the Aalborg Symfoniorkester, the Orquesta Filarmonica de Gran Canaria, The Orquesta Clasica Santa Cecilia, under conductors such as Rasmuss Baumann, Semyon Bychkov, Moritz Gnann, Reinhard Goebel, Alexander Kalajdzic, Vaclav Luks, Kirill Petrenko, Matthias Pintscher, Christoph Poppen, Michael Sanderling, Tugan Sokhiev, Thomas Sondergard, John Williams. The cellist has won several awards, including the first prize at the “Karl Davidoff International Cello Competition” (2012) and the Markneukirchen International Instrumental Competition (2013).
