GREAT SUCCESS FOR THE SPECIAL PROJECT PORDENONE 2025

The Special Project 2025 of the GUSTAV MAHLER JUGENDORCHESTER ended with a highly acclaimed concert at the Teatro Verdi in Pordenone:
CHRISTOPH ESCHENBACH, returning to the GMJO for the third time after 2014 and 2016, conducted the GMJO in a challenging programme with works by Bach: Cantata „Ich habe genug“ and John Adams: „The Wound-Dresser“ – both with baritone MATTHIAS GOERNE, a long-time artistic partner of the GMJO – and Beethoven: Symphony No. 8.
CHRISTOPH ESCHENBACH, who celebrated his 85th birthday this year, and MATTHIAS GOERNE enjoy a long-standing artistic collaboration; both have worked with the GMJO on several occasions, and this time they worked together for the first time with the GMJO.
Previously, assistant conductor CHRISTIAN BLEX enjoyed a huge success with his concert at the Duomo di Venzone, featuring works by Bach: Orchestral Suite No. 3, Zimmermann: Concerto for String Orchestra, Boulez: Messagesquisse and Mendelssohn‘s Symphony No. 1.
The GMJO thus celebrated the 100th anniversary of PIERRE BOULEZ, the great composer and conductor who had a longstanding relationship with the GMJO, and the repertoire of this project embraced works from A (Adams) to Z (Zimmermann) and from Baroque to Contemporary.
The GMJO also celebrated 10 years of a great artistic partnership with the TEATRO VERDI PORDENONE; on this occasion, it received the Seal of the COMUNE DI PORDENONE – a great honour and a wonderful tribute from our friends in Pordenone to whom this project is dedicated.
Our thanks go to the friends and supporters of the GUSTAV MAHLER JUGENDORCHESTER and to our two Main Sponsors Erste Group and Vienna Insurance Group – all of them make it possible for the GMJO to embark on new musical adventures.
