Hilary Hahn

Mathias Bothar - Deutsche Grammophone

Recently named Gramophone magazine’s Artist of the Year, violinist Hilary Hahn is a two-time Grammy Award-winning soloist celebrated for her probing interpretations, technical brilliance, and compelling presence on stage. Extensive touring and acclaimed recordings have made Hahn one of the most sought-after artists on the international circuit.

Hilary Hahn appears regularly with the world’s elite orchestras and on the most prestigious recital series in Europe, Asia, and North and South America. In past seasons, she has toured the United States, Canada, Russia, Sweden, Germany, Spain, Israel, England, Switzerland, Italy, France, Austria, Scotland, Croatia, Japan, and Korea as guest soloist with, among others, the National Symphony Orchestra (Washington, DC), Montreal Symphony, Detroit Symphony, Milwaukee Symphony, Royal Scottish National Orchestra and BBC Symphony Orchestra. Her recital tours and solo concert collaborations have recently brought her to the United States, Canada, France, Italy, Luxembourg, Belgium, Denmark, Switzerland, and Japan. In a special project this season, Hahn joined the Munich Chamber Orchestra for a series of European concerts featuring arias from the Bach: Violin and Voice album, sung by baritone Matthias Goerne and soprano Christine Schaefer and released on Deutsche Grammophon in January, 2010.

In the dozen years since she began recording, Hahn has released eleven solo albums on the Deutsche Grammophon and Sony labels, in addition to three DVDs, and an Oscar-nominated movie soundtrack. In repertoire as diverse as Bach, Stravinsky, Elgar, Beethoven, Vaughan Williams, Mozart, Schoenberg, Paganini, Spohr, Barber, Bernstein, Korngold, and others, her recordings have received every critical prize in the international press and have met with equal popular success.

Hahn's latest recording will be released in Autumn of 2010, featuring the Pulitzer Prize-winning violin concerto of Jennifer Higdon paired with the Tchaikovsky concerto and performed by Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra.

Hahn has received numerous international distinctions throughout her career, including multiple Diapason d'Or of the Year and “Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik” (German Record Critics’ Award) prizes, the 2008 Classical FM / Gramophone Artist of the Year, the Cannes Classical Award, and the ECHO Klassik Artist of the Year.
